The original name is Het Nationale Ballet. One of the most interesting and popular ballet companies of XX century, it was formed in 1961 when the Amsterdam Ballet and the Nederland’s Ballet casts merged.

In different years Dutch National was directed by Sonia Gaskell and Wayne Eagling. «The three great Vans»: Rudy van Danzig, Tour van Shaik and Hans van Manen obtained their glory here. Legendary Dutch ballerinas Olga de Haas and Alexandra Radius shined here. Since 2003 the company is headed by Ted Brandsen, equally gifted in choreography, management and strategy.

Nowadays Dutch National Ballet is one of the key players of cultural space of the Netherlands as well as of the world.

The company is proud of its international cast: it includes about 80 dancers from over 30 countries. The tradition of collecting the most promising dancers has led to a remarkable result: the casting in Dutch is considered to be a criteria of skills. Even selection to the corps de ballet ensures dancer a career success. Most of the Het dancers are at the same time guest soloists with high profile theaters.

The company is very sequential in developing ballet as the art. Its cooperation with outstanding choreographers is constant: William Forsythe, Carolyn Carlson, Frederick Ashton, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, Marco Goecke, s Wayne McGregor, Jorma Elo and others. There are no limits for Dutch National, the company performs literally everything: from classical ballets to topical acts, from epic and highly decorated productions to minimalistic choreographic miniatures. The number of masterpieces is unlimited, and this flush is not going to stop.
