Dutch National Ballet (Het Nationale Ballet) was formed in 1961 when the Amsterdam Ballet and the Nederlands Ballet companies merged. In different years the company was directed by Sonia Gaskell, Rudi van Dantzig and Wayne Eagling. Ted Brandsen has been directing the ballet since 2003. Nowadays Dutch National Ballet is one of the cultural leaders not only in the Netherlands, but in the world.
The company has got the status of one of the most respectful in the world due to its constant cooperation with outstanding choreographers of the 20th century – Hans van Manen, William Forsythe, Carolyn Carlson, Frederick Ashton, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky and others.
The company is proud of its international staff: it includes about 80 dancers from over 30 countries. Most of the dancers of Dutch National Ballet are at the same time guest soloists with high profile theaters.
On April, 21, 2015 Dutch National Ballet will open the XIV international ballet festival DANCE OPEN at Alexandrinsky theatre with it's programme Back to Bach.
