Alexander Yakovlev

Alexander Yakovlev

Alexander Yakovlev is a professional photographer from Moscow who is in high demand taking photographs of artists of the Bolshoi Theater, The Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, St.Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre of Boris Eifman and many others foreign theaters. From the very childhood he dreamed of entering art school but fate decreed otherwise, and he chose another path. In future this had impact on evoking his desire to create artworks avoiding clichés and strict rules. Alexander always treated photo images as fine art: “To create as a painting — extensively, profoundly and elaborately”. The true expression of his own vision of human body was discovered by Alexander in the world of ballet when he started his work on The Mirages project in 2014, which involved Russian and foreign ballet stars. The Mirages integrates the dynamism of the movement, the personality of the dancers and an abstract unique pattern of each shot. It quickly gained international fame in social networks and was exhibited in 2015 in the Kremlin Palace (Moscow), and in 2016-2017 in Gallery Factory (Seoul). As Alexander explains: “Whatever social mark is assigned to The Mirages project, I would prefer to always keep a young photographer’s feel”.

Ken Browar& Deborah Ory

Ken Browar & Deborah Ory

NYC Dance Project is a creative collaboration of two American photographers — Ken Browar and Deborah Ory. Ken is a renowned fashion/beauty photographer, and Deborah brings to the project a background in dance and editorial photography. They created the project to showcase the wonderful world of dance and dancers, centered in New York City. Ken’s passion for dance began when he lived in Paris and photographed dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet. His fashion work has appeared in fashion magazines worldwide. Deborah has been a dancer since age 7, and when injured as a dancer, she couldn’t give up her passion for dance — she started photographing the rehearsals. After moving to New York City and working as a photo editor at magazines such as House & Garden, Mirabella and others, she began shooting editorial work for publications and also engaged in advertising work. NYC Dance Project is a collaboration between Deborah and Ken and merges their experiences and creative passions to create unique and beautiful portraits of the dance community. The project is not just a collaboration between the photographers, but is also one with their subjects. Each shoot is prepared as though it were its own dance production, with attention paid to every detail — the movement, lighting and the feeling each photograph evinces. NYC Dance Project has been featured in many magazines, including Harper’s Bazaar, Italian Vogue and Dior Magazine. Their work has been featured internationally in media such as CNN, The Guardian, The London Times, The Washington Post, and many others. Ken and Deborah’s photography book on dance, The Art of Movement, was published in 2016, and a sequel The Style of Movement: Fashion and Dance, was published in 2019. Both books have won International Photography Awards and have been bestsellers in the United States. Ken Browar and Deborah Ory have had their work exhibited worldwide and have their work represented by the Cavalier Gallery in NYC, the Holden Luntz Gallery, and the Lanoue Gallery in Boston.

Postponement of the XIX season

Dear friends!

We have done everything possible — and impossible too — for the Dance Open to take place in April. We redesigned the logistics, rescheduled the large groups to other flights, and changed the routes of the soloists. Recently, none of the participating theaters intended to cancel a trip to St. Petersburg. Alas, the situation in the world is changing rapidly, and this is a FORCE MAJEURE that neither talented management, super-mobility of artists, nor loyalty of partners nor the availability of plans "B" and "C" will protect from. The experience shows that we all have already arrived to the moment when even the greatest art must take a break and give everyone the opportunity to overcome the difficult time, making everyone as safe as possible. Out of question: there is nothing more valuable than a human life, and no one has the right to risk it. So, we announce, that the program of the XIX season of the Dance Open will take place THIS YEAR, but not this spring — later. But, there is also a good news: in the meantime, we propose to act according to the "D" plan — as Dance Open has one. First, we begin THE PROCESS OF REFUNDING THE FULL COST OF TICKETS purchased on OUR OFFICIAL WEBSITE WWW.DANCEOPEN.COM. We will inform you about the new playbill of the XIX season in advance on all the festival resources and will open the sales again. Secondly, we are launching THE DANCE OPEN ONLINE BALLET MARATHON. They use to say, that ballet does not recognize verbal boundaries — so let it step over viral ones too! Right now we are creating a large and varied content for the online ballet program, where there will be lectures, and exclusive video, and the presentation of a large interactive project, and a vibrant collaboration project that we came up with this winter and planned to present personally, but now we transfer it to the social media. What a miracle: hundreds of spectators holding their breath in a theater venue. But on the other hand, tens of thousands of people gathering in different parts of the world in front of home screens for the sake of ballet — this is also a genuine miracle. And let’s begin to create it together. We believe and do not doubt for a single moment that very soon we all will return to a normal, happy and eventful life. That we will return much more strong, wise and loving. Be healthy, take care of your family and all the beautiful in yourself.
