Name: St. Petersburg International Ballet Award Danc Open Year of the Award institution: 2010 Founder: Non-Profit Partnership Dance Open Festival with the support of the Committee for Culture, St. Petersburg Grand Awards Ceremony is held every two years during the St. Petersburg International Ballet Festival Dance Open City of the Festival: St.Petersburg, Russia General Manager: Ekaterina Galanova Main Goal: The Award is intended to celebrate the highest personal achievements of ballet soloists each year – combination of virtuoso technique and artistry, regardless of styles, genres and trends of performances. Due to the participation in the jury of the most influential persons of the world choreography the Award should become an independent institution that would set high standards for ballet dancers from all over the world. Award process: All the winners will be awarded with a crystal replica of a copy of the bronze cast of the foot of the great ballerina Anna Pavlova, which was created in 1913 by the sculptor B.O. Fredman-Klyuzel. The prototype of the Award is kept at the St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music. A crystal replica is made at the OAO “Dyatkovsky Khrustal”. It is a center of Russian glassmaking, which keeps the best traditions of skilled craftsmen, embodied in the production of excellent quality made of ideally transparent sparkling crystal, polished by the hands of Russian masters. The Jury consists of Artistic Directors of the major ballet companies and schools. The Jury panel is chosen every year. Categories: Grand Prix Dance Open Best Duet Mr Virtuoso Ms Virtuoso Mr Expressivity Ms Expressivity People’s Choice Award Nominees: Professional ballet dancers regardless of the place of living, nationality, Ballet Company. Main provisions: Organizing Committee of the St. Petersburg International Ballet Award DANCE OPEN annually suggests nominees who participate in the DANCE OPEN Gala of ballet. The international jury secretly decides which Awards ballet dancers would receive or decides that no one would get one or more Awards. The Jury panel can vote distantly, having watched the videos of the nominees. The same participant cannot receive more than one Award. If the votes are equally spread between two soloists, than Jury Chairperson has one extra vote and can change the situation .In the category «People’s Choice Award» the award is given to that member of the DANCE OPEN Gala, who will be chosen by a simple majority of the spectators, who attended the gala, and after the end of it, dropped their tickets into the ballot box with the name of the artist written on their tickets to the performance. If this member is chosen also in another category by the International Jury, the award in the category «People’s Choice Award» will be given to another ballet soloist, who will poll the second number of the audience votes. Other provisions: The award is given at the Awards ceremony after the end of the Gala of International Ballet Stars. Entrance to the ceremony - by invitations only. The organizing committee of the Festival has a right to arrange a webcast of the event on the website of the Festival www.danceopen.com.

St. Petersburg International Ballet Award Dance Open is created to celebrate the highest personal achievements of ballet soloists each year – the connection of virtuoso technique and artistry, regardless of styles, genres and trends of performances. The most essential and key principals of the Award and the Jury are objectivity, impartiality and uncompromising attitude. Only fair and competent evaluation could give powerful impulse to creative growth. That is why every year new people are invited to be the members of the Jury. The Jury always consists of the most influential people of ballet world — choreographers, heads of the major ballet companies and schools, ballet legends. Nominees are world ballet stars at the top of their careers, therefore the competition between the stars is always so exciting and breathtaking: it does not matter who wins, because the audience receives the most valuable present -an opportunity to see unforgettable show full of wonderful choreography. Organizing Committee of the St. Petersburg International Ballet Award Dance Open annually suggests nominees who participate in the Dance Open Gala of Ballet Stars. The International Jury secretly decides which awards ballet dancers would get. And the audience has a chance to take part in the process of voting — dropping their tickets into special ballot boxes after the end of the Gala. People’s choice Award is always one of the most intriguing nominations. All the winners are awarded with a unique prize — a crystal replica of the bronze cast of the great ballerina Anna Pavlova’s foot, which was created in 1913 by the sculptor B.O. Fredman-Klyuzel. The prototype of the Award is kept at the St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music. The DANCE OPEN is proud of the fact that artists from different countries of the world have the crystal statuettes. Special Prize of the Award — crystal statuettes — that are a crystal replicas of the great ballerina Anna Pavlova’s foot. Special Category of the Award — People's Choice Award. The winner of this category will be chosen by the audience: the Award goes to the participant of the DANCE OPEN Gala of Ballet Stars, who has a simple majority of votes. To vote, the audience personally attended the Gala should drop their tickets into special boxes after ending of the concert. However, according to the rules of the Award neither of nominees can get an Award in two categories, that is why if the jury chooses the same nominee as the audience, the People’s choice Award will go to the nominee, who has the second highest votes. Therefore, buying the ticket to the Gala of Ballet Stars, you can affect the fate of the People’s Choice Award Prize. Perhaps, your vote will make a difference!

Initiation of the Dance Open Award in 2010 aroused an interest of many key figures of the ballet world. Fundamental principle of the international jury — objectiveness and uninvolvement. During Gala of international ballet stars Dance Open the real level of dancers is being judged, not their potential or past endeavors. Dance Open Award means estimation by respected figures from the ballet world, that’s why it is so appreciated by professionals. Over the years the Award gained doubtless prestige in world’s ballet society. First of all thanks to the authority of the jury members. It is comprised of representatives of different choreographic schools — academism and avant-garde, leaders of classical and contemporary ballet companies, ballet legends and revolutionists, who changed the concept of the dance itself... Jury of the Dance Open Award is truly international. Most renowned and respected figures from Germany, France, Netherlands, USA, Great Britain, Austria, Slovenia, Ukraine, Poland, Finland, Slovakia, Italy and Hugary come to St. Petersburg for the awarding. Representatives of Russian theatres — Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky theatre, Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre and Eifman Ballet — annually leave couple of days free to participate in the jury work. The festival is proud, that once participating in the jury work, masters of contemporary ballet become friends of Dance Open. For instance, the decision to bring a unique choreographic programme came to Hans van Manen during his work at the Award in 2013, and Manuel Legris planned Vienna State Ballet’s tour in St. Petersburg while taking part in jury sessions in 2014.
